In the Open|Faoin Spéir  is an initiative of the Arts Council of Ireland to generate a sustained and curated programme of multidisciplinary, inclusive arts activity in public or open spaces in towns and communities around Ireland between July 2021 and April 2022.

A canopy/pavilion designed by The Living Commons was installed to be used for the duration of the programme at the Wandesford Quay Complex, Cork. This is called The Self Assembly and is a covered area with modular seating and work surfaces, to allow for socially distanced workshops, talks etc. This is a temporary structure that can be flat packed into a trailer for moving away. It is estimated it takes 2.5 hours to fully assemble and 2.5 hours to take down. As well as being used for the main events programme, the structure can be booked by members and the organisations at WQ to host talks, launches, events, seminars etc. and is intended for multi-function use.

Opportunity : Emerging Editor Award 2022

Bloomers are inviting a recent graduate or early-career practitioner to respond to the themes illustrated by the project outlined above and edit a mini-publication with support from Bloomers. This mini-publication would then be launched at an event held as part of the In the Open/Faoin Spéir programme in April 2022 at the Wandesford Quay Complex, Cork.

This is a paid position and the editor will also be allocated a separate budget to produce the publication.

Bloomers will provide conceptualisation, coordination, budget management and marketing support. The final publication will be printed and circulated to a number of stockists and sold on Bloomers website.

This is an opportunity for an individual in the early stages of their career or recent graduate with an active practice (be it artistic, curatorial, literary, publishing, design, architectural, socially engaged etc.) to expand their skills and gain a new experience in the area of print publishing. They may be building on pre-existing experience or branching out into publishing for the first time.
