The title of the second issue, ‘The Living Mountain’, is taken from the book by modernist writer Nan Shepherd. The book is rooted in Nan Shepherd’s knowledge of the natural world. It is a poetic and philosophical meditation on our place in nature. The barrier between the authors personal history and experience of the landscape blur as she investigates her relationship with both the exterior and interior world. The original book describes the authors relationship with environment in a highly descriptive and intimate way, as the her journey through natural surroundings is accompanied with anecdotes about her personal life. This issue is a collection of essays, interviews, reviews and other texts about the work of several emerging Female Artists who are exploring environment in their work. It includes material from emerging female artists who discuss some aspect of landscape, environment, physical space or psychic space in their work.
